Family Literacy

 

 

GED - A program that provides tutoring, counseling, and other support needs that enables the participant to acquire the skills necessary to pass the state examination that gives one credentials equivalent to a high school diploma.

GED TUTORIAL PROGRAM - This program was set up for those individuals who were enrolled in the GED Program prior to becoming employed.  Teaching/tutoring is offered to these participants so that they can continue to pursue a GED while main- taining full-time employment.  (This program is offered during evening hours.)

LITERACY TUTORING - A program in partnership with the Ohio Literacy Council.  This program assist those individuals who test below the high school level to raise their literacy skills in order to be able to participate in the GED program.  (Tutors in this program are trained by the Ohio Literacy Council)

OPERATION BRUSH UP - A program for those participants who have high school diplomas, but need assistance in raising their functional levels.

COLLEGE CLUB - A program to assist participants who are college bound or who are presently attending college with finances, tutorial assistance, or those who simply need a support system.

ENGLISH/SECOND LANGUAGE - A program to assist those individuals who are experience problems grasping the English language.

COMPUTER LITERACY/KEYBOARDING - Classes are offered for participants who have little or no computer experience, and for those who are unable to type.

COMPUTER CLASSES - Classes are taught in MS Works, Word Perfect, Excel, Power Point, and other programs.

CUB/BOY SCOUTS - The focus of this program is to build self-esteem through group discussions, interactions, and other activities.  Focus is also placed on ways to bring out and nourish the potential leadership qualities of each scout.

PREVENTION PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT GROUP - (Males 13 - 17) - The focus of this group is to provide members with information regarding decision making, building self-respect, developing healthy relationships conflict resolution, drug awareness and peer pressure.  Emphasis is also placed on nourishing the potential leadership qualities of group members to help them be productive.  (This program is in partnership with MECCA {Multicultural Eastside Center of Columbus Area}).

HEALTH FOR LIFE - A program open to the Head Start Community Residents.  Topics deal with various health issues.
