Parent Involvement/Sisterhood

Parents are one of Head Start’s/Early Head Start’s most valuable resources. They are the primary educators of their children and the key policy makers for their child’s Head Start/Early Head Start Program. Active parent participation in the educational process is critical to each child’s success, and CDCFC provides a variety of opportunities throughout the year to promote connections/interaction between families, teachers, partner organizations and the greater community. Our goal is to create maximum parent investment in the educational process by helping parents to become their child’s greatest ally/advocate throughout their educational experience. All parent interaction is performed with respect to each family’s diversity and cultural/ethnic background.

Our Sisterhood Program is targeted to the women of Head Start and Early Head Start. This includes mothers, grandmothers, aunts, guardians, siblings over the age of 18, and any other female who is involved in the life of HS/EHS children in our programs. The Sisterhood Program is designed to empower and motivate women to be self-sufficient and to take control of their lives, and utilizes individualized and/or group education, support and advocacy services to aid members in becoming productive, involved members of their communities. One of the program’s primary goals is to provide support for women as they deal with life’s challenges, while also improving their positive self image and their feelings of self worth. The group does several community outreach projects throughout the year as well, including neighborhood “clean-ups,” aiding the homeless, and motivational speaking, to encourage other women. The Sisterhood Program meets the third Wednesday of every month, at various locations throughout the city.
