CDCFC employs Disability and Behavior Specialists to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive disability and mental health services in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and other federal, state, and local requirements.
The Disability Specialists ensure that at least 10% of the program total enrollment is filled by children eligible under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires us to provide Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE to children in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) in general education settings alongside their disabled peers. CDCFC works closely with the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities (FCBDD) and other community providers to facilitate referrals, services, and follow-ups for children with disabilities.
The Behavior Specialists work closely with Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants (ECMHC) from St. Vincent Family Services (SVFS) to provide social-emotional supports to our children and families. A request for intervention (RFI) is completed for children with behavioral or developmental concerns to determine the need for a behavior intervention plan (BIP) and to assist teaching staff with classroom observation and BIP implementation. All services focus on ensuring that the children in our care learn key social skills for preschool, engage in developmentally appropriate social activities, and have access to proper interventions for childhood behaviors that may interfere with learning and development.
